Nathan Stokell's Five Year Plan: Course Option 3
How Do I Get There? (University/Drama School I Want To Study At)
3. London Academy Of Musical And Dramatic Art (LAMDA)
Course Name: BA (HONS) Professional Acting (3 Years)
What Modules Do They Offer?
Year 1: Throughout the training, students take classes in acting, improvisation,
voice, movement, singing, textual analysis and interpretation,
Alexander Technique, physical theatre, stage combat and dance, as well
as in audio and screen performance. They also attend lectures,
masterclasses and open auditions with visiting industry professionals.
Year 2: Second year projects include a Make Your Own Film module and the LAMDA Long Project,
in which students work with a professional writer and director to
produce the first draft of a new play. Some of these plays may be
developed further and become public productions in the students’ final
year. Previous collaborators include Mark Ravenhill, Max Stafford-Clark,
April De Angelis and Jessica Swale.
In the first and second year, students present workshop performances,
which are closed to the public in order to encourage exploration and
experimentation. Throughout the third year, they perform a series of public productions – from contemporary drama to an annual musical – in The LAMDA Linbury Studio and in professional London venues as part of our LAMDA at Large initiative. Some of these productions transfer to theatres elsewhere in the UK and overseas.
Year 3: In the third year, students complete the final phase of their screen
acting, voice-over and microphone training. They also create an original
short film (shot on location and written, directed and edited by
industry professionals), record a radio play, complete a professional
voice Reel and continue to develop their on-camera audition technique.
They invite agents and casting directors to attend all of our public
productions and film screenings. In addition, our students present an
industry showcase in a West End theatre each year. Those eligible to
work in the USA can participate in LAMDA’s showcases in New York and Los
Angeles in the autumn following graduation. All graduates of this
course leave LAMDA with a show Reel and voice Reel.

Is This Course For Me?
"This course offers comprehensive vocational training
for students of exceptional talent. It will stretch you physically,
emotionally, intellectually and creatively – preparing you to meet the
highest demands of the profession." This is a quote presented by LAMDA from their main page of this course.
With the kind of work I'm used to doing at present moment at South Downs, such as devising physical theatre groups and working with voice production, to discover key attributes within my own voice, I think that LAMDA would be a brilliant opportunity for me to consider when further developing these skills, in these specific areas, for when I have to move on from College. As the quote above implies, I'll be stretched physically, emotionally, intellectually and creatively, to achieve the perfect structure of a professional actor in the Performing Arts Industry.
Many great British Actors went to LAMDA to achieve their recognition as a performer, and it has definitely paid off for them since they are now one of the few most famous actors in the world.
When the time comes to picking the next stage in my acting career, LAMDA is going to be in one of the highest choices for me to think about applying towards.
What Skills/Requirements Do I Need To Get In?
Students wishing to apply to LAMDA have to be fluent English speakers, and much like the previous 2 institutions that I had picked for my next line of education for my 'Five Year Plan', this one also doesn't want any previous academic prerequisites.
Since I'm a fluent English speaker and I also have the knowledge and experience within the performing arts industry due to past and present education, I feel that LAMDA won't hesitate also to enlist me onto their programme.
When it comes to the audition process for this course, it'll be smart for me to include any past skills and techniques that I've learnt within acting that could potentially boost my performance if I have to present a monologue in front of my lecturers.
Post Training:
Once I would have graduated from LAMDA, if I choose to enter it, I'll be moving on with a show and voice Reel to use for any possible auditions I have for major productions that I wish to star in later on. I'll also have the chance to be recommended by some of the directors and other professional actors that I would have met whilst on the course, which I'm sure would come very handy to get myself more well known across the world in the performance industry.
This is something that I'd wish would happen with me after graduating from a Drama School, since many other well known professional actors that have gone to LAMDA have came out of it to become a well known performer and have appeared in productions, both film and stage, which I actually enjoy watching and I'll like the chance to appear in these, or similar productions, once I have left my next educational area of choice.
This is all very informative and beneficial, however you need to be even more specific about your personal development. For example, you talk about "the kind of work I'm used to doing at the present moment" - what is this? Specifically? You need to relate the information you have provided to you - why will these modules help you to develop the skills that are required in order to become a professional Actor?
