Scenario/Introduction:
For this seventh entry for the third week on this assignment, I'll be covering both the Strengths and Weaknesses that came out of the session. They will both be covering the whole group as this is a collaborative process that must be evaluated constantly to hopefully improve once the performance date is near.
The Strengths:
Strength 1 - Idea For The Story-Line Within 'The Bridge': I felt that my idea for the story-line we could potentially use for our performance is very creative and has an also very good structure to it. We haven't had the chance to really implement it into our performance as of yet, but this is something that me and the rest of the group will be working on for next weeks session hopefully unless something else comes up. The group were very positive towards my imaginative input and I hope that they continue to do this in future sessions, perhaps even giving themselves a go at trying it as it's a really good thing to experience when working with a group.
Strength 2 - Developing On Physical Theatre Moments Within 'The Bridge': We had spent a whole bunch of time within this session working on our Physical Theatre input as there wasn't really much to offer and since this is a Physical Theatre assignment, it's of course important to have Physical Theatre within a performance. Me and the group had worked very well today as a team in order to accomplish this - we had gone through many trials and errors, rehearsing the piece to make sure it works with all of us and also we had done some discussions throughout with each other as to what kind of characters we could possibly have for 'The Bridge'.
Strength 3 - Experimenting With Many Practitioner Ideas: I'd mentioned in my blog for this session that we had worked with exercises that we'd done previously in this year from many different practitioners, mainly Frantic Assembly. We were trying to work with ways of trying to fit them into the game show and we were also mixing 2 exercises into one to increase our performance potential in terms of Physical Theatre. We managed to show one of these in a feedback session (Charades) and we had mixed reviews, as I'd already mentioned. If there's a moment where we're not doing anything, I'd like to make a return to these ideas and think of some way to implement them into our performance.
Strength 4 - Revealing Our Game Show Idea To The Class: This is something that I'd been waiting for since last week: showing the rest of the group our game show idea. From what I've noticed, they haven't really watched what we've been doing for our devising process so it was exciting to show it off to them. The surprising thing was how much different our performance is compared to the other 2. One group has chosen to follow the style of Steven Berkoff and the other has gone down the roots of Jacques Lecoq and uses mime. Even if our piece lasted about 5 minutes in total, it was still a really fun experience to show off and I hope that further work on 'The Bridge' will make it so much more better than it was in this session.
The Weaknesses/What Did I Think Of This Session Overall?
This is becoming a re-occurring theme within our devising process, and it's that I felt as though there wasn't any weaknesses once again, being the same as last week. We had again worked well as a team because of how we had all cooperated together in order to produce more Physical Theatre appearance within our game show idea since we hadn't had much since last week. There was never a moment where one person wasn't doing anything and we had all surprising managed to contribute something to the session, which is something that not everyone has done thus-far.
For a rating out of ten for this session, I'd give it a 10/10. I say this because we had produced/devised a whole bunch of ideas that we can choose to work with for the game show idea. The fact that our audience during the feedback session seemed to enjoy themselves tells me that we have struck onto a very good idea to go with for this assignment and I can only hope that we keep getting positive responses throughout the devising process.
